African crake often feed on invertebrates found in shallow, exposed puddles

African crake are rare and secretive visitors to flooded grassland around St Lucia. They are more plentiful in wet years when conditions are more suitable.


They can be remarkably confiding at times  almost contradicting their normally secretive habits
