The African goshawk is the most common accipiter in forests around St Lucia.
They are most easily seen at dawn and dusk when they soar high up above the forest whilst giving their chirping display call.
They sit motionless in the forest understory, staking out clearings for potential prey.
Females are significantly larger than males.
In St Lucia they can often be seen hunting at dusk when bats emerge from buildings. The goshawks catch them in flight.
