Brimstone canary are most common in dune scrub at the top of St Lucia’s beaches where they feed on the prolific seeds of flowering beach plants such as Beach pumpkin.
They are also found at wetland edge in the coastal grasslands and Umdoni savanna.
They occur in small flocks and often call from a conspicuous perch such as the top of a waterberry tree.
