The beautiful, vividly coloured weaver is found in forest and forest edge around St Lucia.
Except for their brilliantly weaver nests, they are very distinct from many other weavers in behaviour. They crawl along branches in Woodpecker-fashion- often hanging upside down- whilst probing underneath bark and lichen with their bills in search of invertebrate prey.
Their scraggy (for a weaver) nest is built in the mid-stratum of the forest away from other weavers.
They are often members of mixed-species bird parties
