Greater flamingo are regular but nomadic visitors to the St Lucia estuary and lake system.
They can be abundant (occurring in flocks of hundreds) when shallow water conditions are prevalent but are largely absent in times when the lake and estuary mouth area lack shallow areas to feed.
They are mostly seen at the Estuary mouth area where they can often be seen with the ocean as a backdrop or even (if one is lucky), flying over the ocean.
They often occur in mixed flocks with the smaller Lesser flamingo
