Birds of St Lucia: Grey SUnbird
Grey sunbird are common, albeit discrete residents in the forests surrounding St Lucia. They don't often sit on exposed perches like other sunbird species often do but rather in the dense foliage of a tree making them difficult to spot at times.
They are attracted to flowering African flame trees, Coral trees and Cape honeysuckle. They are often chased and harassed at flowering trees by the more aggressive Eastern olive sunbird.
They are territorial and have a favourite tree that they call from on a daily basis. Their call is very unlike other sunbirds- more like a sparrow-like chirp.
