birds of st lucia: eastern olive sunbird
The Eastern olive sunbird is a resident, highly territorial resident of forest and forest edge in St Lucia.
They are very fond of Natal Wild banana trees (Strelitzia nicolei), flowering Coral trees, Cape honeysuckle and Tree fuschia.
Proper 'bullies', they spend a lot of time chasing off other sunbird species-such as Purple-banded, Collared and Grey sunbird- from flowering trees. Their agression extends to others of their kind too!
They favour the mid-stratum of the forest and are very vocal throughout the day.
