Spotted ground-thrush are Winter visitors to the forests surrounding St Lucia. They move from higher altitude scarp forest to coastal forests to escape the cold Winters.
They are one of the most uncommon birds in the country with an estimated population of only 2000 individuals.
They are scarce in the forests but are more easily searched for at dawn when they are often seen on the path- often in the company of Brown scrub-robin and/or Red-capped robin-chat.
