The gregarious Terrestrial brownbul is a common resident in forests around St Lucia.
Groups of these noisy birds- who need to keep in touch with other members of the group vocally due to the dense nature of their habitat- can be found on the forest floor, flicking enthusiastically through the leaf litter in search of invertebrate prey.
Occasionally they enter the midstratum where they scratch through leaf litter which has accumulated in thick tangles.
They are synonymous with ‘bird parties’ and are often the common denominator of bird parties- other birds (such as Green-backed camaroptera ) follow them to capitalise on any flushed insect prey.
